Description
If the noise for one toddler is "too loud", in fact,so loud that it evokes a physiological response which leads to a complete inability to cope in a seemingly innocuous social situation, what's a parent or teacher to do? Another toddler may thirive in the exact same environment. Indeed, sensory experiences are very individual, and they change over tom. We tend to expect that everyone else experiences sensation as we do. In this workshop we will com to understand the wide ranging differences in sensory preferences. We will learn to recognize, interpret, influence and deal with challenging and unusual behaviors that indicate sensory conditions and needs. Fee 90.00 some tuition assistance available

Description
Every baby is born with primitive reflexes(such as the rooting reflex) that help them survive in the early stages of life. Normally, over time the reflexes are "integrated" or fad away into the background of the child's movement repertoire. Unfortuntely, in today's world, this step of integration is not occurring in increasing numbers of normal children, and this brings challenges to their motor coordination, cognitive and social development. In this workshop we will learn to regognize the normal progression of reflex integration, how to support this process and what to do if it is not occurring. The Characteristics of individual reflexes will be covered. Fee: 135.00 some tuition assistance available

Core Knowledge Areas • Child Growth and Development

Presenter Sandy Alonzo, TMF Level 1
Description
This workshop will address conflicts which occur in the early childhood environments of home and classroom. We will explore causes and develop strategies to empower children to resolve conflicts successfully. Mediation, active listening, and problem solving skills will be practiced, and useful resources will be shared. We plan to have a series of three workshops all within the same core knowledge area. Our goal of this series is to give child care providers an opportunity to try the new techniques learned at the workshop and then get back together to share thoughts, questions and concerns. The next part of this series will be another Beyond the Basics training titled The Dynamic Curriculum where participants will learn about different philosophies in curriculum planning as well as the importance of play. At the end of the first training the participants will decide on the date of the next trainings as well as the content of the third and final training in this series.
