Child First Child Care Resource & Referral at Southwestern Community Services (SCS) came out of the merger between Child First, a Monadnock Region non-profit child care advocacy organization and the Child Care Resource & Referral program at SCS. Prior to the merger, Child First developed an Employer Toolkit to encourage businesses to adopt work-life policies to help working parents to better meet the many demands of work and family. This toolkit is based on the Employer Toolkit Template created by the Child Care Bureau of the US Department of Health & Human Services. This template can be downloaded and can be used to develop your own toolkit tailored to the needs of your community.
We have also made the Child First Employee Toolkit available for your use. This toolkit includes:
• Information on how businesses can support the healthy development and well-being of children which ultimately affects our future communities
• Research on the economic impact of the child care sector and how investing in child care is good business
• An employers’ guide to child care solutions listing a range of dependent care assistance benefit options and a summary chart of these options for easy referral
• Surveys to help businesses assess their existing corporate needs and work-life policies and the needs of their employees
• An employee turnover cost analysis sheet to help determine child care related turnover costs
Thank you for your interest in becoming a family-friendly business. Research demonstrates that businesses that offer work-life policies are better able to recruit and retain employees, which ultimately saves millions of dollars over time. In 2000, New Hampshire businesses alone lost $24,000,000 in staff absenteeism and turn-over. (The Governor’s Business Partners for Early Learning, 2000) And by providing families with what they need to support the healthy development of their children, our children will be better prepared to contribute to society as adults.
